The Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card from American Express earns 3X on groceries (up to $6,000), 2X on gas, and 1X on everything else. Plus, cardholders will earn 15,000 Membership Rewards® Points after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months. Whether or not the Preferred version is worth the $95 annual fee mostly depends on how often you use your card. With the Everyday card, you need to use the card 20 times a month to get a 20% points bonus. With the Preferred version, you need to use your card 30 times per billing cycle but will earn 50% extra points on those purchases which effectively boosts your rewards to 4.5X for groceries, 3X for gas, and 1.5X on everything else. If you make at least 30 purchases per billing cycle and spend at least $3,800 per year on groceries, the points boost will cover the cost of the annual fee.
