With the AAdvantage Aviator Silver World Elite MasterCard you’ll earn 3X AAdvantage® miles for American Airlines purchases, 2X miles for select hotel and car rentals, and 1X miles on everything else.
Plus, every year you’ll be awarded a 10% AAdvantage mileage bonus based on total number of miles earned (10,000 maximum per calendar year).
Two of the best perks of the card are Global Entry membership, a $100 value and the companion certificate for cardmembers who spend at least $30,000 per year. These benefits alone justify the annual fee. Other perks include a 7,500 mile discount when you book a MileSAAver award, 25% in-flight savings, free checked bags and priority boarding (for yourself and up to 8 travelling companions), and Elite Qualifying Dollars and Miles (EQDs and EQMs).
The main draw-back to the card is the fact that AAdvantage miles can only be redeemed for American Airlines purchases. For more flexible travel options consider a travel rewards card.
Although you can’t apply for the Silver card directly, you can apply for the Red card and request and upgrade to the Silver card while paying the annual Red card fee instead of the 5 silver card fee for the first year.
