Just because you’re staying in an Airbnb doesn’t mean you can’t be maximizing your rewards points beyond the usual category bonus. As we all know, Airbnb counts as part of the travel category when earning bonus points on your Chase Sapphire Reserve℠ or Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, so you’ll be earning 3x (Sapphire Reserve) or 2x (Sapphire Preferred) Ultimate Rewards points on your Airbnb purchase.
Well, Delta is now offering 5x Delta miles plus a $25 credit when you book your first Airbnb stay through deltaairbnb.com before February 1, 2018 (earn 2x miles after your first booking before this date). This offer is only valid for new Airbnb signups, but if you’re already an Airbnb account holder, you’ll be getting 2x Delta miles on stays booked before February 28, 2018.
To earn these bonus Delta miles on Airbnb, you’ll need to begin the booking process at deltaairbnb.com. Once there you’ll need to enter your SkyMiles number, after which you’ll get a coupon code for $25 to use when you check out on Airbnb.com. Click the “continue to Airbnb” button and your booking will be tracked and you’ll earn the 5x miles on your first booking.
Once this LTO ends you’re back to 1 mile per dollar, but even that is better than earning just your base category points on your credit card of choice.

There’s a Delta miles bonus for you, too! You can earn up to 25,000 Delta miles if you sign up as a new host through deltaairbnb.com, and reach qualifying earnings tiers outlined below, before November 30, 2018:
- 2,500 miles after $250 in earnings
- additional 7,500 miles at a total of $1,000 in earnings
- additional 15,000 miles at a total of $2,500 in earnings
So, if you’ve ever thought about being an Airbnb host, now might be a good time. While Delta SkyMiles redemptions can sometimes be tough, 25,000 miles should be good for a domestic round-trip transcon in economy, or 62.5% of a one-way Garuda Indonesia business class award ticket.

The Bottom Line
As a complete and total points junkie, I will usually opt to book a hotel where I earn points over an Airbnb, but with this ability to earn some extra Delta SkyMiles on top of my category bonus with the Chase Sapphire Reserve℠, Airbnb is becoming quite the attractive option.
